The amount of public quick electric powered car chargers in the Uk grew 37 per cent in 2021, in accordance to new formal figures.

As of four January 2021, there were being 20,775 public EV chargers of all forms in the Uk – up by a quarter in 2020 – of which three,880 were being quick units. In the fourth quarter of 2020 by itself, 1,288 chargers were being put in, which includes 350 quick units.

Having said that, the information produced by the Section for Transportation in conjunction with Zap-Map also exposed an “uneven geographical distribution” of public EV chargers in the Uk. Throughout the entire of the Uk, there are 31 public chargers per 100,000 individuals. Broken down by country, that is 31 per 100,000 in England, 26 in Wales, forty in Scotland and just 17 in Northern Eire.

There is also a disparity in between different regions in England. London has 69 public chargers per 100,000 individuals – more than wherever else – followed by the south-east (31) and the south-west (28). Joint-lowest are the north-west and Yorkshire and the Humber, each of which only have 19 chargers per 100,000 individuals, even though the West Midlands has 20 per 100,000.

Quick charger rollout

The south-east of England has the greatest proportion of quick chargers in the country, with six.9 per 100,000 individuals, followed by the north-east with six.four and the south-west with six.1. The north-west has the minimum with four.four per 100,000 individuals.

The amount of public chargers in every region elevated in the fourth quarter of 2020, besides for the north-east of England in which the amount really went down by three.four per cent. The DfT spelled out: “Owners and operators can pick to temporarily or completely decommission or replace units, or they can be unavailable due to faults, routine maintenance or other constraints in the spot in which they are situated.”

Wales saw the most significant percentage improve in chargers in Q4 2020 – up 19 per cent – even though London put in the most chargers with 500 new units.
