Nissan Kicks 1.3 Turbo CVT review, test drive

3 min read

Nissan has last but not least launched an automobile gearbox for the Kicks, and the configuration presented is a CVT (continuously variable transmission) paired to a one.3-litre turbo-petrol engine. At selling prices ranging concerning Rs 13.45 and 14.fifteen lakh (ex-showroom, India), it is available only in mid-spec variants, commanding a premium of Rs one.fifty-one.60 lakh above its guide counterparts.

The one.3-litre turbo-petrol comes with an extraordinary resume – it has been co-designed by the RenaultNissanMitsubishi Alliance and Daimler. It even shares some of its point out-of-the-artwork engineering with the Nissan GT-R supercar and it produces a course-greatest 156hp and 254Nm of torque. And it shines in the genuine planet far too with its smoothness, linear ability delivery and responsiveness. Its huge torque distribute from as very low as one,600rpm and powerful mid-variety overall performance tends to make mild get the job done of darting into website traffic gaps, cruising at highway speeds or overtaking quick shifting cars.

The seven-move CVT complements this engine well. It is an intuitive transmission which keeps the engine spinning optimally to assure there’s generally overall performance available on faucet. For the most element it performs its duties really effortlessly on the other hand, whilst slowing down to crawling speeds, it often receives jerky when transitioning to its cheapest move. What is awesome is that the sequential manner offers guide manage – it responds well to inputs and obliges with aggressive downshifts for powerful engine braking.

Automobile is easy and intuitive is responsive in guide manner.

The Nissan Kicks CVT will go away all its rivals guiding in a -60kph website traffic mild dash (with a fair little bit of torque steer). On the other hand, its Korean rivals are considerably more quickly in a rolling race or in flat-out acceleration.

There is a new engine prevent/start feature on present, which seamlessly switches off the engine whilst idling, and will restart the engine instantly when you release the brake in ‘D’. Total, this engine is quite refined, but you can sense vibrations inside of the cabin at idle when the AC compressor kicks in. Also, as the revs climb, the transmission whines a fair little bit.

Due to the fact it is created on the exact rough system as the Renault Duster, the Nissan feels unfazed above the roughest of highway disorders. Even at highway speeds, it stays secure and safe, and it’ll even change direction with a significant degree of self esteem. Its steering is lighter than the outgoing diesel’s, but it still transmits a fair little bit of shocks whilst heading above rough sections or whilst cornering tricky.

Its exterior and interior styling are unchanged, and there’s not even a badge to distinguish this turbo edition from the one.5-litre by natural means aspirated petrol which is offered alongside. Its cabin looks neat, but the interiors don’t sense as premium as you’d expect in a vehicle that prices above Rs seventeen lakh on highway. Also, being a mid-spec variant, it misses out various options, like a sunroof, automobile headlamps, and aspect and curtain airbags, which are expected in this section.

New turbo engine is tuned for drivability and responsiveness.

Inspite of boasting of greatest-in-course engine specs, the Nissan Kicks Turbo automatic’s overall performance is not significantly fantastic. And whilst it is less expensive than the turbo versions of its Korean rivals, it still doesn’t occur throughout as great price for cash as it lacks the total finesse and good quality of the Koreans, and also misses various options. A slender seller community and inadequate brand name recall don’t support its situation both.

On the other hand, if you have generally cherished the Renault Duster for its rough design and mature driving manners, but wished something a little bit more premium and present day, the Nissan Kicks is for you. Its turbo-petrol engine is easy, really drivable and person-pleasant, and the new CVT automated tends to make the Kicks simpler to drive.
