Mercedes confirms EQG electric G-Class for 2024 and Maybach EQS

3 min read

Mercedes has confirmed ideas to launch a new all-electric edition of the G-Class in 2024 alongside a luxurious Maybach edition of the EQS SUV.

Mercedes has said it aims to have an electric car in just about every car segment it serves by 2025 – a objective which will be attained by electrifying offerings in the off-road and luxurious segments.

Mercedes’s advertising and profits main, Britta Seeger, said: “Next year we will present SUV versions of our EQE as very well as of our EQS. All these autos will provide significant variety, 1st-course ease and comfort and impressive dynamics.

“And I can guarantee you that we will keep this momentum going forward. What applies to the Mercedes portfolio also applies to our exceptionally powerful sub models – we want to go electric. So, you can glimpse forward to a best-notch EQS SUV edition of Mercedes-Maybach, for illustration. In 2024 we will launch our full-electric G-Class, as very well. It will continue on the terrific tale of our G-sequence.”

All of these autos will be based mostly on Mercedes’s greater motor vehicle Electric powered Vehicle Architecture (EVA), which built its debut beneath the EQS saloon this year. The architecture is able of accomodating a 100kWh battery which can produce a variety of up to 435 miles on a solitary charge in the EQS.

Mercedes hasn’t but unveiled any technical information on both the Maybach EQS SUV or the electric G-Glass, but we count on the former will be based mostly on the exact EVA platform as the EQS saloon – albeit only with that car’s most potent powertrains.

Aspects are even more sparse on the electric G-Wagen. Nonetheless, if Mercedes elects to preserve the motor vehicle as a mud-plugging off-roader rather than a life-style SUV, it is attainable that the firm’s engineers could glimpse to electrify the current combustion-engined model’s ladder chassis with the battery tech and electric motors from the EVA platform.

Mercedes’s electrification ideas for 2025 and past

Looking further afield, Mercedes will launch three new devoted electric platforms in 2025, identified as MB.EA, AMG.EA and VAN.EA. They’ll all be very standardised, with these three platforms masking practically all of Mercedes’s up coming-generation electric autos.

MB.EA is destined for Mercedes’s potential medium and big autos AMG.EA will attribute beneath all of the firm’s up coming general performance EVs, while VAN.EA will be utilised for the company’s forthcoming gentle industrial autos. To electricity the new architecture, Mercedes has also acquired the Oxford-based mostly electric drivetrain producer, YASA.

Mercedes’s Chief Working Officer and head of development, Markus Schafer, said: “In 2025 we will further consolidate our architectures to a single final overarching program: MB.EA, the Mercedes-Benz Electric powered Architecture. No combustion engines any lengthier.

“And it will revolutionize the way we engineer electric autos. In point, it will not even be an architecture as we have recognised it so much. It is a scalable modular program providing the various components as we have to have them for various autos – plug and participate in, off the shelf.

“Our batteries will be very standardized. A lot more than 90{ed0b873b90f1b87a4f3b347f1646a477c6eee9bccb9dcbe5ac9cb67a3d16495a} of all potential Mercedes autos will be based mostly on a common battery platform. At the exact time, we will be adaptable more than enough to offer specific alternatives to all our consumers.”
