NEW DELHI: Mahindra & Mahindra will leverage Ford India’s manufacturing device in Chennai to extend motor ability for its cars, strengthening its alliance further with the American carmaker, M&M managing director Pawan Goenka explained on Thursday.
“So, the future enlargement will happen in the Ford plant and by performing so we will be preserving about Rs 400 crore,” he informed ET.
M&M and Ford are also functioning on utilising just about every other’s vehicle architectures to spawn out multiple sports utility cars in the long run. The duo is producing a compact SUV codename W601, dependent on a Mahindra system. A B-segment SUV on the Ford system is also underneath dialogue, Goenka explained.
Mahindra plans to roll out 3 all-new utility cars in the future eighteen months. Though the C-SUV is slated for start in the coming fiscal 12 months, it will be adopted by Z101, a new-gen Scorpio in calendar 2021. Initially of the block will be an all-new Thar that will strike the roadways in 3 months.
Goenka explained the companies will see cumulative cost savings of Rs 1,400 crore thanks from joint growth of products and solutions and utilisation of Ford’s motor ability in Chennai. “With the Ford partnership, we will be acquiring the reward of Ford engineering and also the reward of reducing growth cost,” he explained.
“And, we imagine, on the C-SUV…we will be preserving about Rs 1,000 crore among the two (M&M and Ford) of us.”
Mahindra has lost its dominance in the country’s intensely competitive utility vehicle segment to the country’s top rated carmaker Maruti Suzuki. Mahindra sold 146,164 utility cars in the 9 months till December 2019, even though Maruti Suzuki sold 184,330 models in the group.
