2020 Geneva Motor Show officially cancelled over coronavirus fears

The 2020 Geneva Motor Show has been officially cancelled by show organisers, just after the Swiss authorities introduced on Friday early morning that it was banning significant public and personal gatherings until at least mid-March to limit the new outbreak of coronavirus in Switzerland.

The announcement comes just after a 7 days of horse-trading amongst the Geneva show organisers and motor vehicle producers, and only a few times prior to opening. A lot of large carmakers experienced been pulling out senior executives and engineers from show appearances about fears about the virus and feasible quarantine situations, and Switzerland described clean conditions of the virus on Friday.

Swiss authorities have decided to ban public and personal gatherings with more than one,000 people until 15th March at the earliest – pursuing a very similar policy by the neighbouring German authorities. This rather tiny variety of people helps make the motor vehicle show extremely hard to phase, and a variety of very similar functions having put in Switzerland have also been cancelled.

Previously rumours experienced recommended that the show would as a substitute be postponed and moved to a date later on in the yr, but Friday morning’s announcement only confirms that no 2020 iteration of the Geneva show will get put.

Dozens of new-motor vehicle launches and reveals had been planned for the function, which was thanks to open up with its conventional press times on Tuesday and Wednesday next 7 days.

“We regret this situation, but the well being of all contributors is our and our exhibitors’ leading precedence. This is a case of pressure majeure and a remarkable loss for the producers who have invested massively in their existence in Geneva. On the other hand, we are certain that they will recognize this final decision,” said Maurice Turrettini, Chairman of the Foundation Board.

The dismantling of the show floor will start right away, while organisers have spoken of the “considerable” fiscal effects for all those involved in scheduling and attending the function, of which more assesment is necessary.

Geneva organisers have confirmed that tickets for the show currently acquired by site visitors will be refunded online, with more details to be released shortly.
